Most of a commercial photographer's working life is spent answering someone else's brief — a client's, an agency's, a campaign's. OFF BRIEF flips that.

Production Paradise has partnered with MPB to launch a paid creative commission open to photographers across European Union. Three photographers will be selected to each receive a €2,000 fee, plus access to up to €5,000 of MPB equipment, to make something personal, unexpected, or simply different from their usual output.

The theme: take a detour

The theme invites photographers to leave their familiar route and see where another one takes them — moving beyond their usual subject, environment, or working method. That might mean a lighter setup, an unfamiliar focal length, analogue, medium format, macro, or video. The brief is intentionally open: the direction is yours to define, the tools are what MPB can help change.

OFF BRIEF is built for photographers at different points in their career, for different reasons. For some, it's proper resources and the creative room to use them without having to perform for a client. For others, it's the push — and the budget — to finally pursue an idea that's been sitting on a list. For anyone whose work usually has to fit a format or an algorithm, it's a chance to make something that doesn't have to.

Who can apply

The commission is open to photographers residing in European Union. Applicants will be asked to share their idea and specify which MPB equipment they'd like to loan to bring it to life.
