Inside the Experience: A Reviewert's View

Reviewers came to Barcelona with specific goals. They wanted to discover new talent, expand their networks, and contribute their knowledge to the creative community. The experience exceeded their expectations in ways that surprised even veteran industry professionals.

Nicole Hathaway's Experience

Nicole Hathaway, Senior Art Producer and Art Buyer at Publicis Production, shared her perspective on the event's impact:

"Wow - what an event. I was optimistic before going to Production Paradise and I left feeling inspired and excited to start sharing and talking to all the contacts I'd made."
Nicole Hathaway, Senior Art Producer/Art Buyer, Publicis Production

She attended hoping to find new talent and meet industry peers. The event delivered on both goals while adding unexpected value through its structure and atmosphere.Nicole particularly appreciated the organizational details. The time allowance for each session felt appropriate. Small signals indicating the end of each meeting helped both participants and reviewers manage their conversations effectively. She noted this approach stood out compared to other portfolio review events.

"Everyone who attended (reviewers and participants) were open, energetic and really amazing spirits to be around, during the event as well as the sociable hours. I can truly say that I went thinking I'd just find some new talent and speak to a few people - but I actually left, dying to want to work with people in the future and making new friends within the industry."
Nicole Hathaway, Senior Art Producer/Art Buyer, Publicis Production

What It Felt Like from the Other Side of the Table- A participant's experience

Participants invest significant time and resources to attend portfolio review events. They seek honest feedback, industry insights, and access to decision-makers. Jan Deubel, Co-Founder of talent agency Emeis Deubel, brought 15 years of experience to his assessment of the Barcelona event.

Jan Deubel's Perspective

"In my 15 years of professional experience, I've attended many events in a similar format, but I can honestly say I have never experienced one that functioned so smoothly while still leaving so much genuine room for meaningful conversations and real connection. That balance is rare, and it does not happen by accident."

Jan Deubel, Co-Founder, Emeis Deubel

His observation highlights a critical element. Many events prioritize either structure or spontaneity. This portfolio review achieved both simultaneously. The timing worked perfectly, aided by the bell system that participants adapted to quickly.

"What the organiser created was something very special. The structure was clear, the timing worked perfectly, thanks to the bell, which I had to get used to a bit, like anyone else I am sure. The atmosphere the organiser created, together with the team, allowed people to truly engage with one another. That is not easy to orchestrate, and it speaks volumes about the thought and dedication that went into this event."

Jan Deubel, Co-Founder, Emeis Deubel

The environment enabled genuine engagement between participants and reviewers. Conversations extended beyond surface-level portfolio discussions into deeper exchanges about creative process, industry trends, and potential collaborations.

Inside the Event: Two Days That Transformed Connections

The Production Paradise Portfolio Review took place on 19th and 20th February in Barcelona. The event brought together a carefully selected group of visual creatives with leading decision-makers from across Europe's advertising and production industries.

The Format: 20-Minute Sessions That Delivered Value

Each participant engaged in 20-minute one-to-one meetings with reviewers over two days. This format created space for honest feedback and valuable exchange. The time constraint focused conversations on substantive topics rather than small talk.

Thomas Kettner described it as the most exceptional portfolio review of his career. He noted that from the very first moment, it felt like a true creative family. This atmosphere emerged from the caliber of people in the room and the genuine engagement they brought to each session.

Honest Feedback and Genuine Connection

Camilla Camaglia valued the combination of honest feedback and genuine connection. Meeting other creatives in person created opportunities to share experiences in ways that felt both meaningful and inspiring. The face-to-face format allowed for nuanced discussions that remote interactions cannot replicate.

Jack Margerison reflected on the value of building real connections with creatives, producers, and art buyers. The event opened doors to opportunities that are not always easy to access through conventional networking channels. These connections often lead to future collaborations and projects.

Reviewers' Perspectives on Value

Cinzia Caccia, Executive Creative Director at Dentsu Creative in Italy, offered a unique perspective. She described the event as "a social experiment on the value of relationships." This characterization captures how the structured format paradoxically enabled organic relationship building.

Pedro Andragnes, CCO at Almacén, highlighted the importance of understanding creative process. Seeing finished work matters, but understanding the thinking and methodology behind it adds crucial context. The sessions surrounded participants with creativity and conversation from different disciplines.

Beyond Scheduled Sessions

Informal exchanges happened naturally between scheduled reviews. Conversations continued during breaks and in relaxed moments throughout both days. These unstructured interactions often proved just as valuable as the formal sessions.

Thursday Dinner, setting the tone

On Thursday evening, everyone gathered at the Paxton Hotel for a dinner that felt a little more business-focused, with people still fresh, curious, and eager to talk about their work. Over local tapas and wine, conversations moved easily from introductions to deeper discussions about projects, creative interests, and potential collaborations. It was the ideal moment to set the tone before the next day of reviews and begin building more natural relationships.

As the Head of Photography at Mango said with excitement, “Now, this is where the real networking happens!”

Friday Dinner, from networking to real connection

By Friday evening, the atmosphere had shifted. The second dinner felt lighter, more relaxed, and more personal. By then, people already knew each other, so conversations flowed more naturally and often moved beyond work. It became a great moment to strengthen connections, reflect on the event, and, in many cases, naturally confirm next steps with the people they had met.

After dinner, the evening continued at a small bespoke cocktail bar, where everyone could properly unwind and relive the highlights of the past two days. There was plenty of laughter, shared stories, funny moments from the event, and the kind of conversations people tend to remember long after everything is over. Those were the moments that turned professional introductions into something more lasting.

The Round Table, sharing perspectives on AI, the future of Creativity and what comes next

The round table at the end offered a final opportunity for collective reflection. After two intensive days, everyone came together to share perspectives and insights gained from the experience. This closing session helped participants and reviewers process what they had learned, while also opening up a wider conversation about the future of the industry. Among the topics discussed was AI, and what its rapid development means for creativity and for visual professionals today. Reviewers shared their insights and different perspectives on the future of creativity, while participants also chimed in with a wide range of views. Some spoke very warily about what lies ahead and the uncertainty it brings, while others had already begun embracing these tools and exploring their possibilities. The result was a thoughtful and nuanced conversation, one that reflected just how complex and important this topic has become for creatives across the industry.

The energy throughout the event remained consistently high. Participants brought their best work and genuine curiosity. Reviewers offered substantive feedback and real interest in discovering new talent. This mutual investment in quality interaction defined the Barcelona 2026 edition. The video below captures some of that energy, the conversations, the encounters, and the atmosphere that made this year’s Barcelona edition feel so special.

Taken together, these moments are what made the Production Paradise Portfolio Review Barcelona 2026 much more than a series of meetings, it was a space for real dialogue, fresh perspective, and meaningful connection.
