Samuel Hicks is an award-winning London-based photographer whose work intricately explores urban environments and the pulse of street life. His projects harness the natural beauty of light, particularly during golden hour and twilight to produce striking imagery. Samuel immerses himself in the streets among skaters, athletes, and bikers to capture authentic moments and to seek inspiration firsthand. It was through this exploration that Samuel got involved in his latest project of bringing still photography to life, marking a cutting-edge innovation in his artistry.

This project took shape on the court, where Samuel and his friend Neirin Jones (@aneurin_b) experimented with capturing long exposures of people playing basketball. They looked for ways to make these shots more dynamic and came across a technique called Gaussian Splat which animates images through the use of AI. This process involves synchronizing multiple cameras, capturing between 20 to 200 shots, and utilizing advanced AI software to transform them into detailed 3D models.

Using this technology, they produced two films—GS andJunior—starring Lauriston Saunders. These videos, filmed at Shepperton Studios and Pinewood Studios in collaboration with Clear Angle Studios (@clearanglestudios) pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling.

Celebrating Nike's Air Max Plus 25th anniversary, Samuel chose these iconic sneakers as the centre piece of the project. He used a soccer player’s kick to showcase the level of dynamism this method can achieve. With the use of AI technology he manipulated the light creating scenes that are both eye-catching and immersive.

Samuel's exploration of AI technology through the lens of sports and iconic footwear not only showcases his technical prowess but also his ability to blend artistry with cutting-edge innovation. His work continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in visual storytelling, making each project a testament to his vision and creativity.
