Production Paradise: Tell us about the winning image – the idea behind it, how was it shot?
Paul Saraceno: This was one of many during a 5 day shoot for Fage Greek Yogurt. Very simple overhead setup. Credit goes to the food stylist Sunny Ricks, prop stylist Verne Cordova and Creative director Joanne Reeves.
Production Paradise: How do you feel about winning the Category Prize of Spotlight Awards 2022?
Paul Saraceno: Pretty cool.
Production Paradise: What makes your photographic style stand out?
Paul Saraceno: Lighting – the colors and shapes are endless. Bringing it all to life is very satisfying.
Production Paradise: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Paul Saraceno: Collaboration. Working on these food projects with a talented team is like a great meal with family and friends.
Production Paradise: How did you end up behind the lens? Tell us about your career path.
Paul Saraceno: I was a 19 years old serving in Vietnam. On base there was a place you could take your film and process and print your own work. I learned a lot from the guy running the lab, we became friends and when his tour was over, I was asked to take his place. That became my second job and how I spent the remainder of my nights in a war zone, learning and sharing photography and life.
Production Paradise: What do you think is necessary to become a successful commercial photographer?
Paul Saraceno: You must be able listen, understand what is being asked of you, communicate with your team and get to work.
Production Paradise: If you weren’t a photographer, what would be your alternate career path?
Paul Saraceno: Who knows.
Production Paradise: We believe you are not resting on your laurels – what are you working on now?
Paul Saraceno: More video work.
Production Paradise: Spotlight Awards had a judges’ panel composed of potential clients for commercial photographers – did that influence your choice of image(s) selected for your entry?
Paul Saraceno: Of course.
Production Paradise: What made you want to participate in these Awards?
Paul Saraceno: I’m 71, love what I do. Just thought I should try it once. Thank you judges and Production Paradise.
